The Federal Reserve Bank, the central bank of the United States, consists of twelve reserve banks located throughout the nation. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta oversees monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and the operation of a nationwide payments system for six states in the southeastern United States. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta selected DMJM to provide planning, architecture, engineering, and interior design services for its new 238,000–square foot branch building in Birmingham, Alabama. The facility houses secure operations for the transfer of cash and corporate office functions for researchers, economists, and policymakers who focus on local and regional economies. The site plan and building design accommodate a potential 50 percent horizontal expansion of the building and parking facilities, and the design team was actively involved in the site selection and assessment. The facility was designed to allow for discreet public and secure zones, while allowing for circulation to accommodate public tours of the facility. |
