The 6.7 magnitude earthquake which struck Northridge, California, on January 17, 1994, devastated the CSUN campus, leaving 107 structures damaged (seven of which required demolition). DMJM has provided program, project, and construction management services to CSUN for close to a decade. The broad scope of work has included contract administration, estimating and scheduling, safety management, temporary facilities mobilization/demobilization oversight, personnel relocation coordination, and project cost controls. Working closely with federal and state agencies, DMJM ensures strict compliance with regulations, provides justification documentation to maximize eligible scope and funding, and keeps channels of communication open by meeting regularly with agencies. Reconstruction efforts have included significant restorations and six new facilities, among them a new Arts, Media and Communications building; a Technology, Health and Human Resources Center; and two new library wings. All of the damaged buildings have been restored or rebuilt, and recovery efforts are now focused on the restoration of campus infrastructure. |
